As classical as Yo-Yo Ma may be, this album is not classical, at least not 100%. Obrigado Brazil, which means Thank You Brazil, is simply a recording tribute to the culture and people of Brazil. The first two tracks open up a Latino sound style featuring elements of bossa nova and traditional standards. Throughout the recording, each track is suppose to move you emotionally even if you're not a fan of classical fusion genre. This is where Yo-Yo Ma does his job; he takes you on a elaborate wonderful journey. The first place to come up on top of my head is Paris where the cellist was born. Then on we go through several European countries, most notably Italy and Spain. To sum it up, this recording is first and foremost, romantic and beautiful in nature. Long time Yo-Yo Ma fans will salute his latest work while non-classical listeners will appreciate the depth and beauty of this recording.This CD is uniquely different in that the main focus is the style produced on a traditional Japanese Shamisen. This is sort of like where the classical meets the modern flavor. Seriously, have you ever heard the Shamisen played like a J-Pop singer? In fact, this album is more than just that. Agatsuma blends new age and even jazz into the composition, making it one of the most diversified CD in the world. Beams is a combination of trance and rock fused perfectly with the Shamisen. Solitude goes back to the traditional style of music in which the instrument is normally associated with. The track that most represents our musical taste is Grooving. Overall, you'll definitely appreciate the diversity that this album has to offer. And we can't stress it enough, this CD is awesomely COOL!
